Information:
The coolest bathrooms I've ever seen in my life are in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, at the Jan Michael Kohler Art Center. And if the bathrooms are that cool, you can just imagine the rest of the place! These folks know how to live! Of course, it helps to be a part of the Kohler Fixtures empire, a company with a long tradition of support for the arts, that also knows a thing or two about bathroom fixtures. They built the bathrooms as part of their long standing artist in residence program. And then there's the Kohler Foundation. They've made a mission out of saving folk art sites, mostly in Wisconsin in the past, but recently spreading out and beginning conservation work around the country. Many of the sites in this very book are Kohler sponsored sites, and they definitely do it right. But it takes more than just a connection. You have to have a vision at the same time, and the Kohler Art Center seems to have plenty of it. From the original Rhinestone Cowboy's house, to the chicken bone towers of Eugene Von Bruenchenhein, to the largest collection of Nik Chand's work ever assembled outside of India, the Kohler folks are true believers, and they've got a collection that's second to none. We salute them.
