Information:
St. Andrew, Guernsey, England "Frère Déodat arrived in Guernsey in 1913; he belonged to a monastic order devoted to the education of boys. Inspired by the grotto at Lourdes, he built a grotto, and then his tiny "first chapel" in 1914. This he replaced with another 9 foot long by 6 foot wide."
"The portly Bishop of Portsmouth was unable to enter, so in 1923 Déodat destroyed his second effort and began work on the present chapel, which is double the size. It took two years to build the basic structure whose surfaces Déodat decorated with pebbles and broken crockery. Déodat received decorative pieces from all over the world, including a huge piece of mother of pearl from the island's Lieutenant-Governor."
