"Architect Tomaso Buzzi began work on his La Scarzuola complex, near Orvieto, in 1958, intending to create a Utopian centre for the arts around an abandoned convent. At the centre of the complex is the Acropolis, on which stand pastiches of classical architecture, including scaled-down versions of the Pantheon, Parthenon, and Colosseum. There are seven "theatres" where different events or productions can take place simultaneously, and a huge open air auditorium. Abandoned and overgrown after his death, La Scarzuola has been restored under the direction of Buzzi's grand-nephew, using original sketches and plans."
