Information:
Fay-aux-Loges, France
"Pierre Avezard, known as "Petit Pierre", was a cowherd with a penchant for complex mechanical construction. Between 1937 and 1974, he built a Merry-go-round beside his isolated house in Fay-aus-Loges near Orleans. It was a buzzing automated delight, comprising trains, buses, aeroplanes and trams, complete with human and animal passengers, whirling around on various tracks and wires. Controlled by home-made signal boxes made of old nails and air-chambers, it was an extrordinary achievement for this ill-educated farm worker. In 1989, the whole construction was moved to La Fabulserie, at Dicy, near Paris, by its founder Alain Bourbonnais; there it was painstakingly restored to its former glory."
