Le Jardin Zoologique and Chez Taugourdeau - Emile Taugourdeau

Information:
Built: Thorée-lis-Pins, France
"When his duck died in 1974, Emile Taugourdeau decided to immortalise it by sculpting in cement. The resulting statue inaugurated a creative passion that grew over the years into a Zoological Garden full of birds and beasts. The former builder also included human figures, with a bride and groom, a cart driver, footballers, gendarmes and small children. At the entrance visitors are greeted by an Indian goddess draped with two huge snakes, standing alongside a cement windmill and cement trees."
"He worked quickly, painting the damp cement so that it would absorb the colour. Since his death the garden has been tended by his wife Denise."
