Information:
Neuvy-Deux-Clochers, France
In 1961, ceramicist and potter Jean Linard began erecting his "Cathedral" alongside the house he had built himself near Bourges. With its steeply angled roof, embellished with plant holding gargoyles and monsters, the house evokes medieval architecture.
The open air choir of the cathedral is flanked by the bright mosaic surfaces of angular structures and circular arched nave constructed from roughly hewn stone and supported by blue tiled buttresses. Various pyramidal structures, covered in ceramic and mirror mosaics, lead to the Baptistery, a large multi-coloured pyramid standing before a quiet contemplative pool.
Linard makes all of his tiles himself, firing the clay in an open air kiln and embedding them in the cement of his structures.
