Viry-Noureuil, France
"Bodan Litnianski emigrated to France from the Ukraine in the Thirties. Like many others, he found himself homeless after the Second World War. He bought a derelict house in Picardy for his family to live in, and restored it with reclaimed materials, using shells and glass fragments to decorate the walls."
"A former builder, cobbler and man-of-all-work, when he retired at the age of 62, he continued to embellish his house, building pillars densely packed with waste objects that had caught his eye. He collected dolls, bottles, mirrors, batteries, plastic toys, table football sets, televisions and toy animals and integrated them into his columns, which he fashioned of concrete around a framework of iron bars. The garden, surrounded by brightly decorated walls, became a labyrinth encrusted with fascinating objects, many of which have now acquired rarity value in their own right."
