Savannah, GA
Joan Cobitz

1933-2005
Drawings (pencil, pen, marker, etc.)

Information:

Cobitz has been an artist from early in life and now her work spans decades.

She studied printmaking at the University of Iowa under Mauricio Lanzansky and considered herself primarily a printmaker.

Her work speaks of the complex relationship between men and women, the biology and physiology of being a woman, and tells us these stories in pictorial fables. She also composed still lifes with the objects from her kitchen, creating architectural tributes to the meaning of sustenance.
