Information:
Vincenc Jahn was born April 17, 1917 Viklice near Tovacov in the Czech Republic in a peasant family and had two brothers. After finishing school he was apprenticed to a house painter and all his life he worked in the Moravia factory in Mariánské Údolí near Olomouc, where he lived in his own house.
When he was 35, he got married. He retired in 1977 and began to paint countryside scenery from around his place. In his oil paintings he revealed his pure vision, his sense of colour, and the sure touch of his hand, accustomed to holding a paint brush. In approximately 1981 he developed his own technique, combining wood with concrete or plaster.
In this way he produced polychrome heads; he claims to have made about fifty of them. He tried to capture the appearance of the people he knew but he also gave free way to his imagination and fantasy. Unfortunately, his winter work - large coloured snow heads - is undocumented because the snow heads only lasted until the first thaw.
Vincenc Jahn died June 3, 2001 in Paseka u Šternberka.
