Information:
Michael Banks was born in 1972 and was raised by his single mother in a housing project in north Alabama. As a child Michael loved to draw and paint and create from whatever materials he could find. Whatever medium he attempted it always turned into something that made people wonder how such a young boy could possess so much artistic flair.
His mother saw this and encouraged him often telling him that one day he could do great things - maybe even become famous - but only through perseverance. She warned him that he would face obstacles and much pressures along the way.
He continued to draw, and paint, and create a variety of art works until November 1992, when his mother passed away. "My world crumbled around me." In his grief, Michael's desire and his passion for creating things left him. He fell into a great depression and stopped painting altogether. For five years Michael's life took many different and difficult turns during his struggle with depression.
Today Banks continues painting full time and being a family man with his wife, Jennifer. They are the proud parents of a baby son. "I still experiment, combining both found objects as well as artists’ materials into my work. Everyday I create. Painting is my life."
