Del Rio, TX
Consuelo "Chelo" Amezcua

1903-1975
Drawing (pencil, pen, marker, etc.)

Information:

Immigrating to Texas when she was 10, Chelo Amezcua became respected in the local community and famous for her "filigree art" - maze-like illustrations, inspired by Mexican jewelry. First, she began carving stone shells found on the banks of Pecos River.

After carving became too strenuous, she began her intricate drawings with ballpoint pens on cardboard and paper.
