Information:
I was standing knee deep in the warm Gulf Coast waters of Ocean Springs, watching a sailboat glide by in the distance, when I realized why people think I've got a pretty good job. Of course, for most of the day we'd been racing around on hot Southern highways in search of a really big chair that would, at best, end up getting ten seconds of TV time. And just outside Gulfport we found it! We looked at it. And we left. We also found the Walter Anderson Museum, which was a big deal for Mike, who'd been profoundly affected by a documentary he saw during his formative weasel years. Anderson was a painter who threw himself into his art. For years he would row a small boat ten miles out to Horn Island, where he could literally immerse himself in the natural world that he painted. He also made elaborate murals, sculptures, and ceramic works, all on display here. While Anderson was scholastically trained, the museum curator readily agreed with Mike that the man really was a "visionary," and a good choice for our show.
