Information:
"Be nice or leave." Dr. Bob, who we theorize was never given a last name, was kind enough to have us out to his warehouse studio, just on the edge of the quaint-but-oh-so-smelly French Quarter. Over the years, he's made a habit of wandering the quarter, picking up things other folks throw away. Old signs or ironing boards or miniature toy pianos; it's all fair game for becoming Dr. Bob art, and his studio is thick with the stuff. He likes to paint, as well, and he's got a slogan that's become legendary in folk art circles, "Be Nice or Leave." You can't hardly turn a corner or trip over a wino without seeing the slogan in some shop, all framed up nice and neat with pop bottle caps round the edge. Dr. Bob rode out Hurricane Katrina, but finally left to some temporary digs in Memphis. Not sure where he is now.
